As long as in Hungary no good quality breeding alpacas are available, it is possible to purchase breeding alpacas from Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, North and South America.
Our international relations give you the opportunity to contact you with different breeders or, if you wish, to select suitable or hobby animals for you.
On the occasion of the import of our own alpacas, we were confronted with the strict requirements of the Hungarian veterinary authorities and the rules related to the transport of live animals.
We know what tests animals must be subjected to and what documents are required to import the animals. If you want to import alpacas from the EU, we can help you with this.
The import process is as follows
1. Upon your request, we will contact the breeders and request information and photos from the alpacas for sale and we will forward this to you. Upon request, we also provide advice on the quality of alpacas.
2. If there is nothing in the offer that would have won your favor, we will continue to search. If it is, then, it is worth acting quickly because breeders are willing to keep the animals for a while, but in the case of another serious buyer, they can change their mind. The sale and purchase is always between the buyer and the seller, we are not involved in this, but we are happy to help with communication.
3. Mandatory tests for transport. These refer to diseases that can spread from animals to humans and are therefore more important than exclusive animal diseases. These include TB and Brucellosis. These must be tested on the animals before export. This is done by the local veterinarian and the cost of this is usually passed on by the breeders to the buyer.
4. Organising import is a time consuming and costly process. In addition to fuel, tolls, the driver’s salary, the cost of transport also includes the official fees required for export. In Western Europe, this is just over € 200.- per start-up location. In other words, if we have to transport from two places, we have to count with € 400 as a start. Thus, the export cost only is about € 225 / alpaca.
In order to reduce costs, we try to deliver to several clients at the same time and start the transport in case of full utilization. It is more efficient and cheaper but unfortunately involves more work and time. Proper communication is very important here because it is in the interests of more people.
5. The shipping fee is € 0.55 / km + the above mentioned export costs. The final amount will be specified when the transport route is finalized.
6. We do not transport live animals without official permits. This is because inspections can lead to the confiscation of animals if we do not have the proper documents and even a fine. The other important aspect is that only animals that are in a transportable state should be transported, and neither a sick animal nor an animal that is being prepared for or has just been born can be transported. Transport is the most stressful condition for alpacas anyway, so it is very important that we do it professionally. Perhaps the most important consideration is to prevent the spread of disease through live animals. Therefore, only animals free of brucella, tuberculosis and bluetongue can be transported. As suppliers we are also liable.
