Our alpacas are shorn by professional alpaca shearers every year so that the alpacas have to endure the least possible ordeal.
The fleece is not mixed, but carefully collected and stored per animal and depending on the part of the body from which it is used.
The advantage of this is that, if required, we can tell you exactly what quality wool the yarn is made of and you can even buy yarn of your favourite alpaca. Since the wool of our alpacas is analised every year, we know what quality it is and this determines the price. The finest wool has a fiber thickness of less than 20 microns, called baby alpaca wool. This is followed by the category between 20 and 25 micrometers. Most of our alpacas can be classified in this class. Finally, the wool of aging animals is already more than 25 micrometers thick. Here, the proportion of fibers above 30 microns is already higher. This should be taken into account when deciding what you want to make from it.
After washing, the Alpaca Fiber Mill in Békéscsaba makes wool ready to spin by machine carding for the obsessives of spinning.
Only the entire quantity can be purchased per animal.
